After-shock for art's sake
A visiting stark billboard design has made many motorists take notice
A nuclear fallout shelter on Beaufort Street? Do not panic, it's all in the name of art. There is no shelter, although many locals have been loking for one. Swiss multi-media artist Andreas Hagenbach created the billboard announcing the nearby location of a nuclear fallout shelter as his stant against the «climate of fear».
«It's a confrontation to get the discourse going.»
The stark red and black billboard, which is above Edith Cowan University's (ECU) Spectrum Gallery, at 221 Beaufort Street, Perth, also reflects Mr Hagenbach Swiss experience. Until recently, shelters were mandatory in new homes in that country. Ironically, the signs stands just beyond the town of Vincent's welcome sign, which includes the proclamation that the town is a nuclear free zone.
«People have been stopping their cars and coming in to ask where the shelter is, saying they couldn't find it», gallery worker Ben Waters (...) said.
«This project had the most response so far.»
